Two blues on one strand. The strand carries both stones in equal measure: faceted pale aquamarine down one half, deeper opaque lapis lazuli down the other, so that when it wraps twice the wrist shows one band of each. At the join sit one small red bead and one gold-tone filigree bead, which catch the light as the wrist turns. The two stones behave nothing alike: aquamarine is beryl at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, clear and hard, while lapis is a rock at 5 to 5.5, soft and matte, with white calcite clouds and the occasional gold pyrite fleck left visible in the surface. That contrast in texture is the reason to wear them together rather than pick one. Double wrap, elastic, no clasp.

About lapis lazuli

Lapis lazuli is a rock rather than a single mineral: lazurite gives the blue, calcite shows as white clouds, and pyrite as small metallic gold flecks. It measures 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale, which is soft for a bracelet stone, and the deep uniform blue that commands the highest prices comes from Afghanistan. Most lapis is untreated, though some material is waxed or lightly impregnated to seal surface porosity.

Fit and sizing

It is a double wrap, elastic bracelet with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Lapis is porous and soft. Do not soak it, do not swim or shower in it, and keep it away from perfume, hairspray and anything acidic, all of which dull the surface. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

Is the gold bead solid gold?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. The accent bead is gold-tone plated brass with an open filigree pattern, so it is light on the wrist and does not tarnish the way unplated brass does, but it is not a precious metal. Keep it away from perfume and chlorine and the plating will hold its colour for years.

Why are half the beads pale blue and half deep blue?

Because they are two different stones. The pale, slightly sparkly beads are faceted aquamarine, and the deep navy ones are lapis lazuli. Aquamarine is transparent beryl; lapis is an opaque rock made mainly of lazurite, which is why it reads as a solid colour rather than letting light through.

Is the aquamarine heat-treated?

Very likely, yes, and that is standard for the trade rather than something hidden. Pale aquamarine rough is routinely heated to drive off a yellow component and leave a cleaner blue. Heating is stable and permanent, so the colour will not fade with wear. The lapis is not dyed; the white clouds and gold flecks are part of the rock.

Will the lapis scratch or dull?

It can, because lapis is soft and slightly porous at 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. Do not shower, swim or wash dishes in it, and keep it off perfume, hairspray and anything acidic, all of which dull the polish. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it immediately, and never put it in an ultrasonic cleaner. The aquamarine beads on the same strand are far tougher and need nothing special.

How does it fit?

It is a double wrap bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits a wrist of roughly 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in). If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

About this piece

What exactly is this piece made from?

Natural gemstone. Every piece is inspected by hand before it ships. Treatments that are standard in the trade — heat-treated amethyst sold as citrine is the classic example — are explained in our material & treatment guide.

What should I know before ordering?

Each piece is assembled from natural stone, so colour, pattern and exact dimensions vary slightly from the photographs. The specification table above lists what is measured for this piece.

Can I wear it every day, or in water?

The stone itself is not harmed by a splash, but removing it before showering, swimming, sauna or the gym is the single easiest way to make it last. Chlorine and salt water attack elastic over time, and repeated flexing is what eventually wears any cord out.

How should I care for it?

Roll it on rather than stretching it over your hand, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from perfume and chlorine. Store it flat in the pouch provided, out of direct sun. See our crystal care guide.
