Cut across the grain, blue kyanite shows a narrow band of light that shifts as the bead turns. This strand is Brazilian material, strung as a single loop on elastic so it rolls on without a clasp. The stone is untreated, and the band of light is a reflection off the parallel crystal fibres rather than a coating.

About kyanite
Kyanite is aluminium silicate, one of three minerals that share the same chemistry but form at different pressures — the others are andalusite and sillimanite. Its hardness is unusual: about 4.5 along the length of the crystal and 6 to 7 across it, because the atomic layers run in one direction. The blue comes from iron and titanium inside the structure. Kyanite is normally sold untreated; the fibrous pieces that show a moving band of light are cut across the grain.
Fit and sizing
It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.
Care
Kyanite is softer along one axis, so it scratches and splits more easily in that direction than a quartz bead of the same size. Wipe with a soft dry cloth, keep it away from harder stones in a jewellery box, and avoid ultrasonic cleaners, which can open the cleavage.

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.
Common questions
Why does the bead show a band of light?
Kyanite grows as bundles of parallel fibres. Cut across them, light reflects off the fibre walls and returns as a single bright band that moves with the bead. It is an optical property of the stone, not a coating or a finish.
Is this treated?
No. Kyanite is normally sold untreated because the rough is already blue. Expect slight variation in tone between beads and a little black or green mineral running through some of them.
Will it fit my wrist?
The bracelet is single loop elastic and fits roughly 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in). Message us if your wrist is outside that range.
How should I clean it?
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning, which can open the cleavage along the soft axis. Store away from harder stones.
