About freshwater pearl

A pearl is not a stone. It is built layer by layer from aragonite platelets bound by a protein, deposited by a mollusc around an irritant. Those layers are what give a pearl its soft directional lustre instead of the sharp reflection of a polished crystal. Freshwater pearls are grown in mussels rather than oysters and usually have no bead inside, so a baroque pearl is solid nacre all the way through and its irregular shape is the natural shape of the growth. Hardness is only 2.5 to 4.5, far softer than any quartz.

Fit and sizing

It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Put pearls on last and take them off first, so perfume and hairspray do not reach them. Wipe with a soft damp cloth after wear and dry flat. Never soak, and keep away from vinegar, lemon and bleach.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

What is freshwater pearl?

A pearl is not a stone. Freshwater pearls are commonly bleached or dyed; ask if you need natural colour only.

Will it fit a larger wrist?

The elastic core gives roughly 1 cm of stretch, so it suits a wrist from about 14 to 19 cm. Beyond that the beads sit too far apart and the loop stops looking even. Message us if you are unsure.

Is it safe to exercise in?

Light activity is fine. Sweat itself does no harm, but the elastic degrades faster with repeated stretching and drying, and a heavy gym session is where most elastic-core bracelets fail.

How long does the elastic last?

Expect a year or two of daily wear. Elastic fails from UV, sweat and repeated stretching rather than from age, so storing it out of direct sun when you are not wearing it makes a real difference.

Is the silver real 925?

Yes. The metal parts are stamped 925 sterling silver, which is 92.5 percent silver alloyed with copper for hardness. It will tarnish over time, and a silver cloth brings it back.
