Hawks eye is the blue-grey member of the chatoyant quartz family, and it formed the same way as golden tiger's eye: blue crocidolite fibres were replaced atom by atom with silica while the fibre structure stayed intact. The result is a bead with a narrow band of light that sweeps across as the stone turns. Quartz measures 7 on the Mohs scale, so it takes a high polish and holds it.

What you receive

  • Stone: Natural hawks eye (chatoyant quartz)
  • Bracelet type: Single loop, elastic, no clasp
  • Fit: Approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist
  • Hardness: 7

About hawks eye

Hawks eye is the blue-grey member of the chatoyant quartz family. It formed when crocidolite, a blue asbestos mineral, was replaced atom by atom with silica while keeping the fibre structure — the same process that produces golden tiger's eye, only the parent fibre was blue rather than golden. The shimmering band of light across the bead is a reflection off those parallel fibres, not a coating. Quartz measures 7 on the Mohs scale, so the bead is hard and takes a high polish.

Fit and sizing

It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. The fibre structure is sealed inside quartz, so the surface is stable, but avoid sharp knocks that could chip an edge, and store separately from diamonds or sapphires.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

Is the blue natural?

Blue-grey hawks eye is natural. Deep saturated blue tiger’s eye sold in the trade is often heat-treated to shift the tone, so if strictly untreated colour matters to you, ask before ordering and we will tell you what we can confirm for the batch in stock.

What is the difference between hawks eye and tiger's eye?

They share the same structure. Tiger's eye formed from golden crocidolite fibres, hawks eye from blue ones; in both cases silica replaced the fibre and left the chatoyant band behind.

How does it fit?

Single loop on elastic, roughly 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in), no clasp to fasten.

How do I clean it?

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. The fibre structure is sealed inside quartz, so the surface is stable, but avoid sharp knocks that could chip an edge.

About this piece

What exactly is this piece made from?

Natural gemstone. Every piece is inspected by hand before it ships. Treatments that are standard in the trade — heat-treated amethyst sold as citrine is the classic example — are explained in our material & treatment guide.

What should I know before ordering?

Each piece is assembled from natural stone, so colour, pattern and exact dimensions vary slightly from the photographs. The specification table above lists what is measured for this piece.

Can I wear it every day, or in water?

The stone itself is not harmed by a splash, but removing it before showering, swimming, sauna or the gym is the single easiest way to make it last. Chlorine and salt water attack elastic over time, and repeated flexing is what eventually wears any cord out.

How should I care for it?

Roll it on rather than stretching it over your hand, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from perfume and chlorine. Store it flat in the pouch provided, out of direct sun. See our crystal care guide.

Crystal meanings described on this page come from tradition, not from medicine. Nothing here is medical advice.
