Ice grade is the trade term for rhodochrosite with enough translucency that light passes into the stone rather than stopping at the surface, and with fewer internal fractures than standard material. These beads are cut with flat polished facets, so each one returns light in planes rather than as the soft sheen a plain round would give. At 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale it is a piece for careful wear.

What you receive

  • Stone: Natural rhodochrosite, ice grade
  • Origin: Argentina
  • Cut: Faceted round beads
  • Bracelet type: Single loop, elastic, no clasp

About rhodochrosite

Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate, and the material used in jewellery comes mainly from Argentina, where it formed in old silver mines. Ice grade is the trade term for rough translucent enough that light passes into the stone rather than stopping at the surface, with fewer internal fractures. At 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale it is one of the softest stones we sell, which is why these beads are cut with flat polished facets rather than left as plain rounds.

Fit and sizing

It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Rhodochrosite is soft and acid-sensitive. Do not soak it, do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, and keep it away from perfume, vinegar-based cleaners and citrus. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store it in a pouch rather than loose in a box.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

What does ice grade mean?

It is a trade description, not a certification. It means the material is translucent enough to glow slightly when light passes through, with finer banding and fewer internal fractures than standard rhodochrosite.

Is translucent better?

It is rarer, which is why it costs more. Whether it looks better is a matter of taste: some people prefer the strong contrast of opaque banded material. Both are the same mineral.

Can I wear it every day?

You can, but it is a soft stone at 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale. Take it off for gardening, gym work and anything that knocks the wrist, and keep it away from perfume and acidic cleaners.

About this piece

What exactly is this piece made from?

Natural gemstone. Every piece is inspected by hand before it ships. Treatments that are standard in the trade — heat-treated amethyst sold as citrine is the classic example — are explained in our material & treatment guide.

What should I know before ordering?

Each piece is assembled from natural stone, so colour, pattern and exact dimensions vary slightly from the photographs. The specification table above lists what is measured for this piece.

Can I wear it every day, or in water?

The stone itself is not harmed by a splash, but removing it before showering, swimming, sauna or the gym is the single easiest way to make it last. Chlorine and salt water attack elastic over time, and repeated flexing is what eventually wears any cord out.

How should I care for it?

Roll it on rather than stretching it over your hand, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from perfume and chlorine. Store it flat in the pouch provided, out of direct sun. See our crystal care guide.

Crystal meanings described on this page come from tradition, not from medicine. Nothing here is medical advice.
