Tiger's eye, black obsidian, black tourmaline and lapis lazuli all carry plain-English associations, which is exactly why they work as gifts. Black obsidian is the softer of the group at Mohs 5–5.5; black tourmaline at 7–7.5 takes daily wear far better.
