Malachite is copper carbonate, and the green bands are layers of growth in the same way tree rings are. It forms where copper ore weathers, which is why it is found alongside azurite. At 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale it is soft for a bracelet, and a lot of bead material is stabilised with resin so the surface does not flake — this listing says what applies to the batch in stock.

What you receive

  • Stone: Natural malachite (copper carbonate)
  • Bracelet type: Single loop, elastic, no clasp
  • Fit: Approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist
  • Hardness: 3.5-4 (soft)

About malachite

Malachite is copper carbonate, and the green bands are layers of growth in the same way that tree rings are. It forms where copper ore is weathered, which is why it is found in the same deposits as azurite. The stone measures only 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, so it is soft for a bracelet, and much of the material sold as beads has been stabilised with resin to stop the surface from flaking — untreated malachite is available but is more fragile.

Fit and sizing

It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Malachite is soft, porous and sensitive to acid, so treat it gently: no soaking, no swimming, no perfume or hairspray, and no ultrasonic or steam cleaning. Wipe with a dry soft cloth. Because the stone contains copper carbonate, avoid breathing dust if a bead ever breaks.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

Is the pattern natural?

Yes. Malachite grows in concentric layers and the banding is that growth record. It is one of the few green stones where the pattern cannot be printed or dyed convincingly, because the bands run through the stone rather than sitting on the surface.

Are the beads stabilised?

Much of the bead material in the trade is resin-stabilised to stop the surface flaking, and untreated malachite is available but more fragile. If you need untreated material specifically, ask before ordering and we will tell you what we can confirm for the batch in stock.

How careful do I need to be?

Quite. No soaking, no swimming, no perfume or hairspray, and no ultrasonic or steam cleaning. Wipe with a dry soft cloth. The stone contains copper carbonate, so avoid breathing dust if a bead ever breaks.

About this piece

What exactly is this piece made from?

Natural gemstone. Every piece is inspected by hand before it ships. Treatments that are standard in the trade — heat-treated amethyst sold as citrine is the classic example — are explained in our material & treatment guide.

What should I know before ordering?

Each piece is assembled from natural stone, so colour, pattern and exact dimensions vary slightly from the photographs. The specification table above lists what is measured for this piece.

Can I wear it every day, or in water?

The stone itself is not harmed by a splash, but removing it before showering, swimming, sauna or the gym is the single easiest way to make it last. Chlorine and salt water attack elastic over time, and repeated flexing is what eventually wears any cord out.

How should I care for it?

Roll it on rather than stretching it over your hand, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from perfume and chlorine. Store it flat in the pouch provided, out of direct sun. See our crystal care guide.

Crystal meanings described on this page come from tradition, not from medicine. Nothing here is medical advice.
