Kyanite is the blue stone that behaves unlike any other bead on a bracelet: it measures about 4.5 on the Mohs scale along the length of the crystal and 6 to 7 across it. This strand is cut from older mine rough, which is why the blue runs deep and slightly uneven rather than flat and even the way dyed material does. Strung on a strong elastic core with no clasp.

What you receive

  • Stone: Natural blue kyanite, old-mine rough
  • Bracelet type: Single loop, elastic, no clasp
  • Fit: Approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist
  • Finish: Polished, untreated

About kyanite

Kyanite is aluminium silicate, one of three minerals that share the same chemistry but form at different pressures — the others are andalusite and sillimanite. Its hardness is unusual: about 4.5 along the length of the crystal and 6 to 7 across it, because the atomic layers run in one direction. The blue comes from iron and titanium inside the structure. Kyanite is normally sold untreated; the fibrous pieces that show a moving band of light are cut across the grain.

Fit and sizing

It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Kyanite is softer along one axis, so it scratches and splits more easily in that direction than a quartz bead of the same size. Wipe with a soft dry cloth, keep it away from harder stones in a jewellery box, and avoid ultrasonic cleaners, which can open the cleavage.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

Is the blue in kyanite natural?

Yes. Kyanite is rarely dyed because the rough is already blue; what varies is how much black or green mineral runs through it. The colour comes from iron and titanium inside the crystal structure, not from a surface treatment.

How does it fit?

The strand is single loop on elastic with no clasp, and fits a wrist of roughly 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in). If you need a different length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

How do I look after kyanite?

Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store it away from harder stones. Kyanite is softer along one axis than across it, so a sharp knock can open a split. Skip ultrasonic cleaners.

About this piece

What exactly is this piece made from?

Natural gemstone. Every piece is inspected by hand before it ships. Treatments that are standard in the trade — heat-treated amethyst sold as citrine is the classic example — are explained in our material & treatment guide.

What should I know before ordering?

Each piece is assembled from natural stone, so colour, pattern and exact dimensions vary slightly from the photographs. The specification table above lists what is measured for this piece.

Can I wear it every day, or in water?

The stone itself is not harmed by a splash, but removing it before showering, swimming, sauna or the gym is the single easiest way to make it last. Chlorine and salt water attack elastic over time, and repeated flexing is what eventually wears any cord out.

How should I care for it?

Roll it on rather than stretching it over your hand, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from perfume and chlorine. Store it flat in the pouch provided, out of direct sun. See our crystal care guide.
