Prehnite is one of the few bracelet stones that looks better the more light you put through it. These beads are 10 to 11 mm, cut round, pale enough that you can see straight into them: the faint white lattice lines, the small dark green flecks of epidote that grew in the same cavity as the prehnite, and a soft watery green that shifts between mint and eau de nil depending on the light. Every bead was matched by hand for tone, so the strand reads as one colour rather than a patchwork. Strung on elastic with no clasp, which means nothing to fasten one-handed.

About prehnite

Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate, first described in South Africa and named after a Dutch colonel who collected minerals there. It measures 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and is normally sold untreated. The pale yellow-green colour is natural, and many pieces carry dark green epidote or black tourmaline grown into the same cavity, which shows up as flecks or needles inside the bead.

Fit and sizing

It is a single loop, elastic bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits approx. 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in) wrist. Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to fasten one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

Care

Wipe with a soft damp cloth; prehnite is tougher than it looks but still softer than quartz. Avoid prolonged sunlight, which can fade the green over years, and keep it out of an ultrasonic bath.

Shipping and returns

Orders are processed in 1-3 business days from our Shenzhen studio. Standard delivery to the US takes 10-20 business days and costs $8; shipping is free on orders over $70. Express delivery is $15. A tracking number is emailed once the parcel is handed to the carrier. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging.

Common questions

Is the pale green in prehnite natural?

Yes. Prehnite is normally sold untreated, and these beads are no exception. The colour is part of the mineral itself, not a dye: the deeper green flecks you may see inside a bead are epidote or black tourmaline that grew in the same pocket, which is one of the ways to tell natural prehnite from glass.

Why are some beads clearer than others?

Because the rough is not uniform. Some beads come out almost glassy, others carry a milky internal cloud or a fine white line, and both are normal for the stone. We sort for tone so the strand stays even, but we do not bleach or treat the beads to force them identical, because that would not be prehnite any more.

How does it fit?

It is a single loop bracelet on elastic with no clasp, and fits a wrist of roughly 15-18 cm (5.9-7.1 in). Because the core is elastic it rolls on over the hand, so there is nothing to do up one-handed. If you need a specific length, message us before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.

How do I care for prehnite?

Wipe it with a soft damp cloth and dry it straight away. Prehnite is tougher than it looks at 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, but it is still softer than quartz, so store it away from harder beads and avoid knocking it against a desk edge. Keep it out of an ultrasonic bath, and out of long spells of direct sun on a windowsill, which can fade the green over years rather than days.

Is prehnite the same as green aventurine?

No. Aventurine is quartz and measures 7 on the Mohs scale, and its sparkle comes from tiny mica inclusions that flash when the stone turns. Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate at 6 to 6.5, and it glows rather than sparkles because the light passes through the bead instead of bouncing off flakes inside it.

About this piece

What exactly is this piece made from?

Natural gemstone. Every piece is inspected by hand before it ships. Treatments that are standard in the trade — heat-treated amethyst sold as citrine is the classic example — are explained in our material & treatment guide.

What should I know before ordering?

Each piece is assembled from natural stone, so colour, pattern and exact dimensions vary slightly from the photographs. The specification table above lists what is measured for this piece.

Can I wear it every day, or in water?

The stone itself is not harmed by a splash, but removing it before showering, swimming, sauna or the gym is the single easiest way to make it last. Chlorine and salt water attack elastic over time, and repeated flexing is what eventually wears any cord out.

How should I care for it?

Roll it on rather than stretching it over your hand, wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from perfume and chlorine. Store it flat in the pouch provided, out of direct sun. See our crystal care guide.

Crystal meanings described on this page come from tradition, not from medicine. Nothing here is medical advice.
